Original Rock & Roll - to Soothe Your Soul

MORTEGO

(pronounced 'moretogo') - mort + ego => as the ego dies back, selflessness can grow and balance can return. a 'prescription' for people

Mortego is a 4-element combination
of Muscle Shoals area musicians
brought together by a mutual
determination to play original music
- (and of course, some covers too...)

After years of denial, escapism, and distractions, the members of mortego have had to face reality and admit that there is more to go!  More electric music ... - built upon the foundations set by giants.

Mortego's musical influences and tastes are diverse: from classic rock, blues, and jazz, to classical and world music, and from funk to country, the particular fusion of these elements creates a sound that allows the ‘Shoals’-area roots to shine through with a fresh take.

With almost 100 years of combined musical experience, mortego creates an uncommonly rich sound.

Having played stages such as: WC Handy Festival, Panoply, The Exit Inn, The Cannery, First Fridays-Downtown Florence, UAHuntsville, UNA, The Kaffeklatsch, The Crossroads, and showcasing for ASCAP and BMI, and, some having earned radio-airplay at different times in the past, each musician brings a healthy dose of expertise to this ensemble.

influences

- too many to list really ...

If you were to mix up:

good ol' Rock & Roll,
70's Progressive,
a healthy dose of downhome blues,
some New Orleans Funk,
a touch of New-Age and World-Music,
simmer in some Jazz and Country ...

you might be getting close to what we sound like...

press, compliments, and rumors

"... best rock and roll show I've seen around here in a long time." - Max Russell, refering to the last Smokehouse show with An Abstract Theory.

"... ya'll's music just makes me feel good ..." - Rob Malone (guitarist extraordinaire with The Fiddleworms) after our first show at the late-great Olde Towne Tavern.

The mortego song Mother Spider (on the new album) received radio play on WTAK on 11-30-11.
Listen for more mortego on WTAK and other local radio shows soon...
